Vincent Nadeau Lu

Lu, Vincent

Vincent Nadeau Lu, 33, passed away on April 16, 2022.  Vincent was born to Elizabeth Nadeau Lu and Michael Lu on May 28, 1988.  He was raised in Nashua, where he participated in youth sports, and theater.  Vin was a voracious reader and he loved poetry and philosophy. He was also a songwriter and created music through a combination of craftsmanship and flourishing creativity. He graduated from Kenyon College in 2010.

After college he launched and managed a successful Austin-based entertainment company until he fell ill.  Vinnie’s plans and efforts were interrupted by the emergence of mental illness in his late twenties.  The effort to obtain treatment for his illness required more strength and determination than he had left.  His passing leaves us grieving deeply at the loss of a gentle, compassionate soul whose presence was a comfort and joy to those who knew him.

Vinnie leaves behind his parents and step-father, Matthew Plante, his sister and her husband, Juliet Lu and Olivier Celhay, and his nephew, Arsène, as well as many cousins, aunts, uncles, step-siblings, nieces, nephews and friends.

In lieu of flowers, please consider becoming an advocate for equal access to medical treatment for those with mental illness.  You may also donate to the National Alliance on Mental Illness of New Hampshire at www.NAMINH.org/get-involved/donate

Family and friends are invited to his calling hours on Thursday April 21, 2022 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the FARWELL FUNERAL HOME, 18 Lock Street, Nashua, NH. A celebration of Vinnie’s life will be held at a later date. To leave an online message of condolence, please visit www.farwellfuneralservice.com

I always found Vinny to be a sweet and passionate guy. We often organized concerts together at Kenyon, and I loved his optimism that we’d fill the room with fans. As Nick mentioned, I too remember his big smile while banging out a bass line. My deepest condolences.

After sitting with this heartbreaking news for two weeks, I feel, above all, grateful to have had Vinnie as a friend in high school, to have so often been the recipient of his generous kindness, and to have had the opportunity to witness his spirit, intelligence, and talent in many contexts: as a musician, a runner, a student, and a thoughtful, warmhearted individual. I cherish my memories of times spent with him. My deepest condolences.

I’m very sorry for your loss. My deepest condolence for the family. I went to college with Vinnie and he gave me a ride from Gambier, Ohio to Boston in November 2007 and showed me around in Boston. It was a fun ride and we talked quite a lot about life. I really cherished the memory.

Vinnie and I were friends at Groton. I loved watching him play music and was so envious of his immense talent. He was my date to the "prom!" I'm so very saddened by his passing, and I'll be holding his family in my heart during this time of mourning.

I am so sorry to hear of Vinnie’s passing. I knew Vinnie fairly well at Groton having done plays with him. His creativity and talent came with both ease and endless energy at the same time. He was always kind to those around him and a joy to share space with creatively. Your family is in my thoughts and prayers and I hope you are surrounded with love during such a difficult time. My sincerest condolences.

Aunt Liz, Uncle Matt, Juliette, and family, My deepest condolences goes out to your entire family. It’s hard not to try wrapping our brains a hundred times around this reality. I have learned that sadly we will never be able to know the pain and suffering that Vinny endured from this horrible disease. I do know that his smart, kind, loving, and beautiful soul fought like hell for the entirety of his journey. One memory i would like to share and will hold onto forever is Vin being so proud and excited to read an excerpt from his journal that he had written. He opened his heart, showed vulnerability, and left the reader with knowledge and awareness about Mental illness and the impact is has on oneself. The amount of bravery and courage he displayed, will live on forever. Vin will be so proud knowing that he is bringing awareness and education to a topic that is most often swept under the rug in today’s society. For that we need to cherish all the memories and bright light he has brought to each and every one of us. He will truly be missed.

I remember Vinnie's smiling face and the joy and cheer that he brought to the cross country team. Fire Maguire and I were lucky to have coached Vinnie in cross country and to benefit from his outstanding running skills as he helped Groton School to a historic ISL win in 2005. It is hard to believe that someone with Vinnie's disposition can be so affected by mental health issues. My deepest condolences. You and the Groton community have lost a real treasure.

Sweet and kind Vinnie deserved much more from life, yet mental illness seems to claim the most sensitive and beautiful souls. His struggle is over, but for you; Liz, Matt, Juliet and family, we can only pray for the day that memories of him bring joy that outweighs your heartache. Holding you in our hearts, Scott and Norma

Vinny, I love you. Jam sessions on acoustic guitar when we were kids was amazing. You were always a bright and shining light in every room. Whatever pain you were in is ours now, you don’t have to hold it anymore. We love you, and we’ll miss you forever.

I feel very lucky that I got to meet Vinnie, years ago while he was visiting Juliet in the San Francisco Bay area. Bright, sensitive, creative, funny and very kind--I immediately felt at ease with him. I am deeply sorry to hear of his untimely passing; mental illness is something that continues to personally impact my family and I everyday. I sincerely hope that we develop better social systems, and science to prevent it from hurting so many of our loved ones. Juliet has been a close and wonderful friend since our college years, and I hope to support her through this painful time. Vinnie, rest peacefully and may your memory be a blessing. All my love to you, Juliet and the entire family.

We are prepared to loose our parents but not our children. Having lost a son at 27 years old, the pain is so great , only a parent that has lost a child can really understand. My heart is bleeding for you!

To Vinnie’s mom and dad, Thank you for bringing Vinnie into our lives. My enduring memory is the gigantic smile, as big as the double bass, radiating during Jazz Band concerts. It was a blessing to make music with Vinnie. Devastated to learn how much pain was behind the big smile.
