FERNANDES, JOHN A.

   John Anthony Fernandes, 82, of Nashua, passed away Monday afternoon, November 29, 2021 at the Crestwood Center in Milford, after a period of declining health.          

   Born in Nashua on September 13, 1939, he was a son of the late John C. and Adelaide D. “Ida” (DeJesus) Fernandes. A graduate of Nashua High School, John served a tour of duty with the Army and was stationed in Germany in the early 1960s.     

   A machinist by trade, John began his career at Sprague Electric Company and continued at Nashua Corporation for many years, retiring at the age of 62.

   In his leisure time, John enjoyed candlepin bowling at Leda Lanes, running in his younger years and watching Boxing with his brother, Bob. He also enjoyed watching football and was an avid New England Patriots fan. John was a friendly and welcoming person, and had a nurturing way with his grandchildren.  

    Members of his family include his children, Lisa Hafley and her husband Bert of Merrimack, Brenda McKenzie, Brian Fernandes, Tracy Bernazzani and the late Bruce Fernandes and Bonnie Zintel; several grandchildren including, Sarah Cooksey and her husband Craig of Gilford, and Samantha Hafley of Salem, MA; several great-grandchildren; a brother, Robert Fernandes of Nashua; also many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, John was also predeceased by his brother, David Fernandes of California; and his sister, Angie Gallant of Illinois.

    Calling hours will be held at the FARWELL FUNERAL HOME, 18 Lock Street, Nashua on Friday, December 3rd from 6 to 8 p.m. A brief prayer service will take place Friday evening at 7:30 p.m. Interment will take place at St. Patrick Cemetery in Hudson, Saturday morning at 9:30 a.m. Donations may be made in his memory to the Manchester Animal Shelter, 490 Dunbarton Road, Manchester, NH 03102. Sorry to here of John's passing my family's sincere condolences. I shed a tear , made me think of my own parents and how sad it was . I remember the conversations we all use to have at your grand mothers ( Aunt Ida's ) with John,and Bob for hours those were good times. He was quite the talker. God Bless You

My heart goes out to my cousin Lisa and her family for the loss of Uncle John. Tho I only met him a few times I’m deeply saddened. My thoughts are with the family. Always.

so sorry, Lisa and Bert. losing a parent is always difficult no matter our age. i hope his passing was gentle and you are left with family memories of so many years
