Lucille J. Chartier, 97, of Nashua went home to her Lord and Savior Jesus on Tuesday, November 22, 2022 surrounded by members of her loving family.  Lucille was born on September 22, 1925 in Nashua, NH, the eldest daughter of the late Harold and Armande (Fraser) McKay.

Lucille met her husband in 1946 when she caught the eye of a certain handsome fellow named Donald Chartier who was playing baseball for the Nashua Dodgers.  They married in 1947 and shared 70 wonderful years together.  They were able to renew their wedding vows on the occasion of their 70th anniversary, in a touching ceremony a few months before Donald’s passing.

Besides being a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Lucille spent over 40 years in her career as the Administrative Assistant to several principals at Nashua High School.  She made many life-long friendships there.

Lucille was a devout Roman Catholic her entire life, and was a communicant of Immaculate Conception Church.   She was kind and generous to all, especially those with less fortunate circumstances.  She truly lived out her Christian faith.  Lucille had an outgoing and friendly demeanor, and a great sense of humor!  She easily made friends anywhere she went!

In her free time, Lucille enjoyed traveling to Atlantic City and Mohegan Sun to play the slots, which she was often lucky at!  She also enjoyed cooking and baking treats for her family, reading, (especially cookbooks), playing cards with her girlfriends, and bowling in a league for a time after her retirement.  More than anything, she enjoyed spending time with her whole family, including her several beloved family dogs.

She was loved, admired, and cherished by her entire family.  She was our matriarch, and we miss her sorely already!  Her loving family members include her daughter Judith Falkowski and her husband Steve of Merrimack; son Jeff Chartier and his wife Judy of Andover, MA; son Steve Chartier and his wife Judy of Nashua.  “Grammy Lu” was also a dear and fun Grammy to her grandchildren: Colyn Belter and her husband Mark of Merrimack; Erinn Falkowski of Milford; John, Joe, and Jess Chartier of Andover; Nathan Chartier and his wife Adrienne of Sturbridge, MA; Jeremy Chartier and his wife Marika of Lyndeborough, NH; and Amanda Munroe and her husband Nathan, who made their home with and cared for “Grammy Lu” in her later years. She also doted on her great-grandchildren: Abygail and Jackson Forbes of Merrimack; Grace, Faith, and Sophia Chartier of Sturbridge; and her “little namesake” Lucy Chartier of Lyndeborough.  Lucille also had many dear cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.  In addition to her beloved husband Donald, she was predeceased by her sister, Florence Nickles, brother Richard McKay, daughter-in-law Michele “Shelly” Chartier, and grandson Ryan Falkowski.

Calling hours will be held at Immaculate Conception Church, 216 East Dunstable Rd.in Nashua on Tuesday morning, November 29th, from 9:30-11:30am.  A Funeral Mass will be celebrated immediately after at 11:30 in the Church.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Lucille’s loving memory to the Nashua Humane Society, 24 Ferry Rd, Nashua,NH 03064 or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.  Arrangements are in the care of the FARWELL FUNERAL SERVICE.
